In answer to your questions, I would be interested in more book group sessions on a pop up basis.
For me audio is not preferable to reading. Reading is preferable to audio.
I have zero social media presence, purposely. I would not participate in a forum. I used to do that in a couple of venues, but at this time in my life I would not make the time for it.
I do nothing involving apps on my phone, except I guess texting and photos might be apps?
I know what I am about to say is obvious, but I will say it anyway. There is so much of value on offer online, not to mention offline, that we all have to make choices among the many, many valuable ways we might use our time and energy. This need to manage our time and energy so as not to overload is all the more true as we get older.
I am sure you would do a great job at everything you are thinking of offering here. I just wouldn't have the ability to participate given everything else on my plate.
About topics, I am interested in most of the topics you take up. One that is very large in my life is caring for those with significant, significant disability. I was glad in a number of posts to see you take that up. I am also following with great interest your involvement in the integrated schools movement.
Thanks for this reintroduction for a new reader like me. I used to live near Temescal Commons and was always drawn to the idea. Now I’ve lived in a shared house with other single people and families for seven years.
I’m new to your newsletter, and to parenthood, but I love them both dearly. Thank you for bringing your talents to the world in this way. I would 100% love a book club and writing classes. Please do that!
I appreciate you and your work. I am a relatively new father, and and work away from screens and keyboards, so engaging further than reading and the occasional comment isn't really on the menu right now. Just wanted to say that I often feel a resonance with the humility and clarity with which you share your experiences.
I am a really long time follower of your work (like, back in feministing days) but have always been too afraid to step into comment sections, ha. Mainly my own fear of not having good enough things to say or add to the discussion. Regardless, I love Examined Family for all the reasons others have said - the ethical meanderings, the parenting, the NYT posts... I just feel like this is such a beautiful little corner of the internet and I'm so glad you've curated/are curating it.
Wow, thanks so much, Nicole. No pressure to comment more but I promise you good enough things to say. Thanks for following my work all these years. That means so much to me.
Sharron (my lifelong partner) and I really, really needed to have Courtney’s inspiration today so we can’t possibly overstate our appreciation. Thank you for your thoughtfulness, eloquence and marvelous photos.
Yet, after the uplifting election results, we had to face this morning the huge downside of Trump’s announcement of his candidacy. Thomas Friedman calls him “The Big Liar” in today’s op Ed, on the basis of his past record of pathological mendacity. So can it be that we are forced to endure more of this outrageous assault on our democracy, and for how long?
We must all shout out: Courtney we need you! Congratulations on being recognized as Substack Best Seller, a richly deserved honor. I’m off to Powells bookstore to buy “Easy Beauty”.
Congrats on your successes. Not surprising after meeting you and reading every post and forwarding them to my sister mom's! I am interested in writing, learning, reading. After a few decades on the front line of health care in Asia and Africa (as a PA and non profit founder/C2C in Haiti).I'd love to reflect on international aid, philanthropy and how to put ego aside and support what works for all, not some. Just moved to SF from 5 decades and 3 generations in Boston. Liz
Hey Courtney! I’m just dipping my toes into substack and learned of your writing from Garrett Bucks--I’m so glad I did! I’m not too far away over in San Francisco, raising my 7 and 2 year olds and practicing connecting, interdependence, and care. All that to say--I’m so happy to be in your good company here in the bay and can’t wait to dig into more of your writing!
Hi Courtney! I LOVE your newsletter and have forwarded it to many friends :) I would definitely be interested in a writing class. I have "a thing I haven't written" :) that I am working on thanks to you. But I'm a medical doctor not a writer and I'd LOVE your guidance, since I really, really love your writing voice (both your books and newsletter). Thanks so much.
Oh, goodness! What a lovely shout-out. Unless, of course, you were shouting out Asha Dornfest, who is also awesome and I've seen pop in here before. Asha's are good people to keep around. ;)
OTHER ASHA REPORTING! Asha Sanaker, thank you for that (I mean, really, your comment surprised the hell out of me). Courtney, much thanks for your work and generosity here. I believe spaces like this and people like you change the world. Aside: I’ve learned so much about Substack from you so thank you for that, too.
Congratulations on your well-deserved check mark! I have bought your book, shared it with friends, who are now also loyal subscribers. We are so grateful for this space and your voice.
As for your questions: Definitely yes on the book club and a writing class! And as a bereavement professional I always want to read about grief & loss, if you want to add that to your list.
Long-time reader, first-time commenter. (I think?) As you know, I found EF through my school integration work, and I love how it (and LIP) has pushed me to think more expansively about that issue- how it connects to the ways we relate to/love others, how we make sense of complexity, how we experience and navigate challenges, etc. I've been trying to write something along these lines based on my own family history, and your recent post inspired me to finally start making the time for it. It's very new/different kind of writing for me, so would be excited to be a part of some kind of writing class to work on it and learn from others. So much appreciate the space you've created here.
Thank you for what you do here.

Thanks dear Fritzie. I get it on the overwhelm. Sometimes I'm confused about how many newsletters to send out in a week given that.
What a great idea! thanks for this... I may have to borrow the concept of a re-introduction for my newsletter :-)

That's so kind. And totally get the menu!

Oh DD, can't wait to hear what you think of Easy Beauty. Hi Sharron! Love to you both.

Topics dear to my heart, as you know. Thanks Liz!

Welcome to the Bay!
I've actually been here about a decade! But new to substack!
I'd be into the Zoom class you are considering.

You doctor/writers just amaze me! Great to know, thank you.
I love this, Courtney -- so well done.

Thank you for your work. Def up my alley to talk about grief & loss. Stay tuned...
