Thanks so much for this, dear friend—including that great pic of Superwoman, who always arrives just when we need her! As it happens, I am at this very moment embroiled in a high-stakes drama that involves a family that lives on another branch of my family tree. So I’ve been saying to myself, “Welcome to the human race!”, every time I get an urge to go to my shop, grab a chain saw, and cut that branch off the tree. As it says in an old Hindu epic called The Ramayana, "There are three things which are real: God, human folly and laughter. The first two are beyond our comprehension, so we must do what we can with the third.” Love to all y’all!
what a beautiful post! (and a star-studded comments section). my husband and i are watching as many 2022 movies as we can this month, one a night when we're on it. that's feeling really JUICY. cant recommend aftersun and matilda (very different movies) enough!
What a lovely way to ease into the new year. I'm digging the concept of juicy January — embracing things that feel sweet, tangy, and make me smack my lips with pleasure 🥰
I love Superwoman! And would love to hear the story of how her name comes from Parker’s... I turn it over in my mind whenever you mention it but haven’t puzzled it out. Thank you for the beautiful, human reflection on a fresh, juicy new year!
Thanks so much Courtney for this inspiring mantra from Parker and the fabulous photo of Stella! I adore her face!
Our miserable moment came when our son and family failed to arrive on Christmas as planned because they had booked on the now infamous Southwest Airlines from Phoenix to Portland after spending hours in a mobbed airport. The good news is that they’re still coming here next week, this time on Alaska, showing that where there’s a will, there’s a way. Happy 2023! DD

I did so much laughing in December, as it turns out. I guess I had a hunch it was necessary and the only medicine available at times. Hang in there.

Here's hoping we learn to choose a juicy life - it reminds me of Kate Baer's poem "Idea" from her collection "And Yet."
Wishing you good health, laughter and love this new year Courtney.

Her middle name is Parker. Stella Parker Martin Cary.
Highest honor I’ve ever received!
Thank you so much - you've no idea how much this helps. xx

Who cares what the calendar says!? I cheer all of your resilience.
Thank you, just what I needed to read, nod in agreement, and laugh at, on a wildly wet Wednesday.
Thanks for the real today and a healthy authentic look at the New Year.
