When my son was little, we were part of a nanny share arrangement with four other (progressive) families. Some of us gave raises and paid time off to the caregiver, essentially doing a pass-through of the benefits we received at work. But most families did not. Some would even cancel childcare at the last minute or take vacations and not pay the nanny during that time, even though she relied on that income. I appreciate the framing of solidarity and love to see it elevated in these "behind closed doors" negotiations. Especially poignant when caregivers immigration status is vulnerable.

An outstanding interview! Sarah Jaffe articulates brilliantly the core issues in today's educational system that prompted me to order her book today. I can't wait to see these incredibly relevant ideas developed further.

In my own experience of volunteering in Portland, Oregon's public schools, K-12, the central problem of the egregious disparity of wealthy is blatantly evident. The private schools are well funded and highly privileged while the public schools lack basic resources and pay the teachers poorly. Thank you Sarah for your clear and cogent expression of this immense problem.

Finally, since Courtney has learned so much since publishing her last book, I urge her to write an enlarged edition because we need more of her wisdom. DD
