If there has ever been a moment for egoless wisdom, this has got to be it, don’t you think? The news has me gobsmacked with how much hubris, archaic masculinity, and self-interest is circulating around these days. Well, get ready for the opposite of all that…
Season 2 of The Wise Unknown is launching out into the world starting next Monday, February 3rd! Our little trailer dropped today. Take a listen:
As you probably remember from season 1, The Wise Unknown is a podcast where I ask some of the country’s most revered actors, activists, authors, and spiritual guides to introduce listeners to the “wisest person no one has ever heard of,” and then I kick the famous person off the line and interview their “wise unknown.” It’s full of depth, surprise, and delight—a real counter cultural move in a world that worships celebrity and salaciousness.
Last season featured comedian W. Kamau Bell (& Dwayne Kennedy), psychologist Adam Grant (& Bernard Chang), novelist Isabel Allende (& Lori Barra), actors Rosario Dawson (& Idalia Rodriguez) and Ashley Judd (& Ted Klontz), organizer Ai-Jen Poo (& Joyce Johnson), chef Samin Nosrat (& Twilight Greenaway). Through the twists and turns of those varied and powerful conversations, we landed on this distilled wisdom…
This season is jam-packed with brilliance, including our first episode where a movement leader and bestselling author (hint: biomimicry! science fiction! pleasure!) introduces me to a sociological genius you’ve probably never heard of. You don’t want to miss it!
I’m also going to put interstitial episodes in the feed this time around, which are little audio essays by yours truly about the lesson that really sticks with me from each conversation. I’m excited to hear how you like them.
I would be so grateful if you would spread the word to your networks, via social media, newsletters, emails, or carrier pigeon. Like and subscribe here.
Apparently the biggest boon for podcast reach is still good, old-fashioned word-of-mouth, so get gabbing about The Wise Unknown pretty please. I would be so grateful, as would my awesome team of producers (like the amazing EP Golda Arthur), and all the well known folks who graced us with their busy presence in hopes that listeners would learn from their favorite quiet pals.
Let’s show the world what it sounds like when people who are led, not by fear and money, but curiosity and complexity, speak up.
And tell us in comments…if you had to pick one person in your life to have me interview—your “wise unknown”—who would it be?
Dear Courtney--my suggestion for a Wise Unknown for you to interview is Greg Lathrop. He is a death doula and one of the Elders at the Conscious Center for Living and Dying outside Asheville, NC. He accompanied my wife and I as she approached her last breath in May 2024. Here is a link to CCLD and where you'll find Greg's "bio": https://www.ccld.community/story
Thrilled that this series is back! Will share broadly.
Recommend Curran Reichert, a broadway actor turned pastor who helps communities and groups heal from trauma. Knowledgeable about chakras, healing, grief, loss and all the hard things in life. Xo
