Your writing is always the most wonderful medicine I didn't realize I needed. The line about the aroma of Celestial Seasonings Sleepy Time tea sending you into panic made me laugh out loud. In our house it's Tension Tamer tea, which has a picture on the box of a very composed princess-looking woman in a red dress sitting on the back of an equally composed-looking dragon. When my now 25-year old was in college and in a state - at once too tired and too anxious to finish an overdue term paper - I made her a cup of Tension Tamer, pointing out how calm, but alert, the dragon and its princess looked. Our family still refers to it as "calm, alert dragon tea." I don't think it sends anyone into a panic, but like you, I am continually amazed at what I learn about the inside of other people's ribcages, including my own most beloveds' hearts.
"We need to keep remembering that we don’t know what we don’t know about the inside of other people’s ribcages, about their vivid 2am imaginations" So beautifully said. We do not know the inner truths of another. But we need to try
Beautiful. Just beautiful. I look at the pictures of me when I was a kid, and I look worried in all of them. The Girl With the Furrowed Brow. That your kids have you, someone who pays attention and follows their lead, that's a gift for a lifetime.
Thank you Courtney. Just what I needed to read. Moist eye day again today it seems. Kudos to Stella and to you for holding space in just the right way for each other.
That you didn't have to ask what her worries are, just that they are and now they are in the box. Thank you for that C. I didn't know I needed that part especially. xoS

We are Girls with Furrowed (and Very Large) Brows, too. We should start a club!
Love that idea!
Such wisdom, Courtney. I'm so moved by this piece. Maya and Stella are fortunate kids in having you and John to love and raise them.
Thank you dear Sharon! Such an honor to see you pop up here. xo

This is beautiful. Thank you.
Thank you for this. 💗
Brilliant. So much truth. My worry box runneth over these days. I thought once my daughter was an adult, I’d stop worrying so much but, alas...
