This echos what popped for me at my last Sunday Sangha, the phrase "water column of awareness". When we're dialed in to awareness, life is so rich. When we're distracted, ungrounded, just slogging through life, we miss so much.
The words in this lovely poem remind me to pay attention to whatever is going on around me. Often, distractions get in the way, and we miss those golden moments that make daily life a gift.
This elegant poem differs quite a bit from the fierce poetry slams that I first heard in fall, 2000 at slam poetry contests where Courtney, a relative amateur, began her career at Columbia. The competition was intense! Months later I noted distinct improvement when she performed at Nuyorican Poets Cafe on 236 E.3rd St. (temporarily closed at present). I'd welcome reading some of this by contrast. I like both versions; if my memory is wrong on dates/places, please correct me. DD

YES. I am always repeating that to myself.

It's great. You can use it for anything! It's kind of shorthand for "so nice to be above the earth again today."

Beautiful. Thank you Courtney. I needed this today.
It's my favorite prayer -- "This!!!"
Wow. So powerful. I am really moved by this poem. Thanks for writing and sharing it Courtney.
Absolutely spot on! Beautifully expressed…a reminder to notice. Thank you.
'where everything is at our fingertips and nothing is under our feet'. What a great way of explaining too much of modern life.
The cry for mindfulness, for paying attention, as life flows by and through. The prayer, the reminder, the feeling of be. here. now. Beautiful.
