I know that Courtney is very familiar with Brooklyn so she must be as horrified as anyone by the tragic violence on the subway there. Please share your views on how to respond and cope with such appalling suffering. DD

Thank you DD. It's so troubling. And clearly more police aren't the answer, as evidenced by the info people are sharing about how many were on duty that day. I heard his sister said he was a very lonely person. COMMUNITY, as always, seems like one of the answers. What are you thinking?

Dearest Courtney, I fully agree that forming small communities of caring and compassionate people is an answer to remedying the epidemic of violence that engulfs the country . We must start with nurturing families that support this cause and you are definitely setting the right example! Love as always, DD

Thank you for sharing your writing and thoughts -- first I came across your article about Paul Farmer, then the post about worthiness which left me feeling good all morning, and now I'm smiling reading this article. And you were right about hearing about the oxtail soup-- my thoughts went right to a shrimp soup with thinly sliced onions and some freshly squeezed lemon that my father cooked for me one time I needed a boost. He was always changing up the soup, but we had some kind of improvised soup made with leftovers almost every weekend.
