There were so many great take-aways from this read, but I literally STAYED for the "birthing parent" terminology that soothed me over and over. As a transman who birthed my children, I don't often come across others who include me in their speech or writing. Seahorse dads are almost always a source of anger and tension, and the fathers like myself who were not out as transgender when we birthed our children face very similar silencing, invisibility, and condemnation. Thank you for seeing me. It feels great.

Thanks for an eye opening piece and lifting up Leseliey’s and others’ powerful work and perspectives on this topic.

As a recent new parent (and my partner, the birthing parent is a woman of color) I learned so much how jacked up the birthing process is and how silenced the birthing parents can be in a hospital system - even at a “nice” hospital - we are definitely going through a midwife approach for our next births.
