Don't go cursing like that on my Substack you vagrant! Love you. Your namesake is full of questions, which is just about perfect to carry on your legacy.
That precious child was Born Baffled, just as I was! I treasure her and her sister and her Mom and Dad. And BTW, I’ve been reading your new book (due out in August), and it’s freaking brilliant, too! Love, P.
This morning I was wondering what to say to my daughter in law - a special being in my life. She is honest. She is brave. She is always willing to say the most powerful, intelligent things. And she is Black. And I am White. Your words are the words I want to say to her because they are so real. And smart. Thank you for helping me along this morning.
I, too, felt a sigh of relief that one policeman will pay for his self entitled action, but then today I read about a 15 year old girl who had called the police for help against three girls who were threatening her. Now she is dead from 4 police bullets that stopped the knife in her hand. What do I say to my son who is brown? Clearly, it is not even begun, let alone over.
Thank you for sharing this Sarahjane. It was heartbreaking to learn of Ma'Khia Bryant's death right when we were exhaling. I'm guessing your son doesn't need words so much as he needs your authentic heartbreak and conviction, your hugs, your outrage, your love. And he needs to know that you're one of a rising tide of Americans, White included, who are saying ENOUGH. You are not alone. He is not alone. The violence is real and so are we, trying to transform it within ourselves and in our communities. Sending love.
This is freaking brilliant! Truly, it is: “little fish bones,” indeed! As you know, dear friend, I don’t often say “freaking!"

Maybe that's why we call it the Uprising?

That's a high compliment. Thank you.
A Clarion cry...oh we must stay awake and prepared for action! Thank you for this.

Thank you for your loving, supportive response. It is the hug I needed on this roller coaster of living in this country.
