Hey all, I’ve been turning to movies, art, music this week to try to feel okay, so that’s where the recs are coming from. I’m sending this week’s endorsements to both paid and unpaid subscribers, cause lord knows we all need some solace. If you like this quick hit of the things that are bringing me joy, making me smarter, or inspiring me, feel free to update to be a paid subscriber and you can get it every week! (I so appreciate the support.)
This interview with legend Alynda Segarra of Hurray for the Riff Raff is oh-so-good. Thanks
. You’re the frickin’ best.My friend Jen Bloomer has these beautiful 2025 calendars for sale. It feels like they represent so much about the kind of dream I’m holding for the year ahead—lots of breaking bread with people I love, scheming a more just future, and staying tender and together (as I wrote this week).
The girls and I watched Harold and the Purple Crayon and got a real kick out of it. It’s on Netflix.
Also I am so excited for Moana 2 later this month! Moana was the first movie Maya say in the theater so I have major nostalgia about it.
I love Joy Oladokun and she’s got a new album out. As she says, some days “waking up is a victory.”
I always appreciate a music rec - and, lo and behold, if Joy Oladokun's video doesn't have some very familiar Canadian content.
There’s an inspiring interview with Peter Singer, my favorite philosopher, in today’s Sunday New York Times that mentioned his latest book “Consider the Turkey”, that’s relevant to the forthcoming Thanksgiving holiday. DD
