Sunday 5

Yes, this is my real family trying to get a Christmas picture about 8 years ago.
  1. Merry Christmas, to those who celebrate. If you’re feeling like you let folks down on putting the PERFECT Christmas together, consider this throwback comfort.

  2. Or if you’re reeling from time with family that is deep and intimate and also disappointing or complex, this might help you feel less alone.

  3. A couple of obits blew me away last week: this one on Dorothy Pitman Hughes, who saw care for the intersectional, foundation issue it was far before most people in public life, and this one on a very different human, a cave explorer!

  4. This journey that Yo-Yo Ma is on struck me as so humble and fitting for our times. I love the way the journalist wrote the piece, too, leaning into all the hard places and being honest and still light.

  5. Luddite teenagers. Yes please thank you.

If you’re getting this and wondering why, I thought I would throw a free Sunday 5 out to all my subscribers. I do this weekly for paid subscribers. It’s just a little taste of the interesting stuff that came across my “desk” over the week and people seem to really appreciate it. Upgrade to paid and these can be yours each week of 2023.
