What a pleasure to be interviewed by you, Courtney, and now to find these words in The Examined Family today. Your own stories added so much to our conversation. One of the things I enjoy about this newsletter is the way you bring generations together. As Marilyn says, "None of us can do it alone." I am grateful for this community of parents and elders thinking and working together.

Wowza on that list! Pitch perfect as is -- nothing to add/subtract. I've been looking for a gift to mark my friends' entry into the magical world of grandparenting, and this may very well fill the bill -- gracias! (Back in the day when they were popping kiddos, Anne Lamott's "Operating Instructions" was my go-to for crossing that threshold.)

I ordered The Mindful Grandparent. I'm leading book circles on Sharon Blackies book Hagitude: Reimagining the Second Half of Life. There is so much needed to recenter elder women. Perhaps grandchildren can help. I hear we have a huge effect on the health of children and that it extends all the way through life. I would add to the list Keep asking questions. Your creativity is You so Keep it going. Dance with Life.

Love your addition to the list, Cynthia. One of the cool things about making a list is that it stimulates other lists -- and other questions.

I just ordered "Mindful Grandparent" on the basis of these 22 "essential truths". And the letter from your grandmother is really so beautiful that it brought me to tears.

I wrote for CM an essay on my own experience as a grandfather in these columns awhile ago, so I won't repeat that here. I'm just very grateful to have all of these commentaries sparked by this gem of a theme. Thank you! DD

So much wisdom here! Thank you for featuring this work. I can’t wait to listen to the episode. And I’m delighted by this small world collision. Marilyn is married to my godfather! They are both absolute gems, and beloved to me.

Wow, small world! This was my first time interacting with Marilyn and I found her to be so deeply wise and articulate.
