No big (or small) revelations to share this week, but plenty of recommendations…
What I’ve been listening to: this Death, Sex, & Money episode on stripping and this interview with George Saunders by Ezra Klein (I identify so much with how Saunders talks about the writing process)
What I’ve been reading: How the Word is Passed by Clint Smith (out in June…hoping I can bring you an interview with him), Other People’s Children by Lisa Delpit, and Cultivating Genius by Gholdy Muhammad.
What I’m watching: Minari lived up to the hype! I want the grandmother to move into our cohousing community and for the little boy and Stella to be best friends.
Also anytime I am alone, I give myself the special treat of one Better Things episode. I’m savoring them slowly because I love them that much.
And my friend/collaborator Wendy’s new Draw Together empire (but the benevolent, not screwed up kind).
What I’m heartbroken and enraged by: guns and toxic masculinity
What I’m looking forward to: feeling a sharp pinch in my arm this Saturday (first vaccine!!!); dropping my kid off at school with her brilliant teacher in 3-D; sitting in the sunshine with my dad and hearing him say, “Is that right?”; cooking for my mom and hearing the sounds of her making art with my daughters
What would you like to recommend to the Examined Family fam this week? What are you enraged by or looking forward to? Throw it in comments.
Excellent podcast: Help a Human Out. Learning so much about becoming anti-racist
I'm currently watching the second season of Ramy- which I love. But also Waffles and Mochi- which I, a childless adult, also whole-heartedly love.
